About the Ceremony
Pournami (Full Moon) Puja celebrates the lunar cycle's completion, when the moon reflects the sun's light in full — symbolizing the complete illumination of consciousness. In the Shakta tradition, the full moon represents the goddess at her most radiant and powerful.
On Pournami, the temple conducts special Abhishekam and Alankaram for all deities, with particular emphasis on the goddess shrines. The full moon's energy is believed to amplify the power of mantras and prayers manifold. Sacred water (Theertham) prepared during Pournami is considered especially healing.
Devotees observe fasting and visit the temple for the evening ceremony, which includes group chanting of Lalita Sahasranamam, special Deeparadhana with 108 lamps, and distribution of Pournami Prasadam. Meditation during Pournami night is said to yield results equivalent to months of practice.
